"Maybe we should wait here for you," Lori whispered nervously. "Those guys look tough!"

"We go wherever the Princess goes," Finn said stoutly Lincoln growled his agreement.

Ari kept her eyes on the lords at the table as she and Chase walked proudly down the hall. The big, muscular man in the middle was Puckenstew. Strong as an ox, Lord Puckenstew had never been defeated in a joust or tournament. His nickname was Lord Bear, because he had hair all over his arms, legs, and face. The round, cheery-faced man next to him was Artos; he was so short, he stood on his chair. Even then, his head barely came to the ears of the third lord.

The third lord was Rexel. Tall, gaunt, suspicious, Rexel had a mean mouth and unkind eyes. He had a reputation for driving his servants and his unicorns hard. But unlike the four lords who had defected, Rexel had remained loyal. Ari thought briefly of Lord Lexan, brother of the horrible Lady Kylie. Lexan had at last declared allegiance to the Shifter. He had seemed so kind! And he had turned into such a traitor!
